The Black Sea river-sea coaster market was stable or slightly down this week. Wheat shipments of 3,000 tonnes on the Azov-Marmara route fell slightly from $54-55/tonne to $53-54/tonne. On the Rostov-Marmara route, freight rates corrected from $56-57/tonne to $55/tonne. On the Rostov-Mersin route, a correction was seen from $75-76/tonne to $73-74/tonne.
As expected, there is no movement in the Black Sea conventional coaster markets. Freight rates for 5,000 tonnes of steel cargo transported on the Novorossiysk-Marmara route remain around $17-18/tonne. Freight rates for 5,000 tonnes of wheat are hovering around $18-19/tonne.
Freight rates for 5,000-6,000 tonnes of grain cargo transported from Reni and Izmail to Marmara remained at last week's level of $25/tonne. Freight rates for 5,000 tonnes of high-stacked grain cargo could be secured at $25-26/tonne.
The Baltic Dry Index (BDI) for large tonnage ships declined from 2,069 points to 1,991 points with a downward correction. Capesize rates fell, while Panamax rates rose but failed to hold the index. Supramax also lost strength, deepening the decline.
The Baltic Supramax Index (BSI) fell from 1,424 points last week to 1,369 points. Average revenues also fell from $17,996/day to $17,303/day.
Daily revenues on Supramax routes between the Black Sea and the Far East fell from $22,875/day to $22,825/day. Revenues on shipments from the Gulf of Mexico to the Far East also declined from $29,971/day last week to $27,093/day this week. Far East averages rose slightly this week, recovering from $15,129/day to $15,185/day.
The Baltic Handysize Index (BHSI) fell from 885 points to 878 points. Average revenues also eased from $15,937/day to $15,812/day.
Handysize revenues on the Black Sea, Mediterranean, and Continent routes managed to maintain the levels they rose to last week and remained steady at $14,000 per day. Daily rates for voyages from the Black Sea to the Far East also maintained the $16,000 per day level.
Income on the South America-Continent route fell for the third consecutive week, dropping from $23,300/day to $22,552/day. Average income in Far East markets rose again this week, climbing from $13,286/day to $13,431/day.

In the Supramax segment, the 2009 Chinese-built “Sea Dana” sold for $11 million, while the 2012 Chinese-built “Jin Mao” sold for $13.1 million. The older 20-year-old 2005-built 52K DWT “Bulk Freedom” sold for $9.6 million.
In the Handysize segment, the 2012 Japanese-built 37K DWT open hatch bulk carrier (OHBS) “La Bamba” sold for over $15 million. The 2019 Japanese-built 36K DWT “Ocean Tact” went for $24 million. The 2009 Imabari 28-type “Danship Bulker” went for $8.8 million.
No coaster sales were reported this week.
